What is Placenta Encapsulation?
Placenta Encapsulation is the process of dehydrating, grinding into a fine powder and encapsulating a placenta after giving birth. I use the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) method. This involves gentle steaming, dehydrating and grinding the placenta into a fine powder and then put into vegetarian capsules. The theory behind placenta encapsulation is that it replaces the hormones lost during birth. It is a gentle way to taper off of the hormones instead of a dramatic drop after delivery.
What are the benefits of Placenta Encapsulation?
Everyone is different and may experience some, no, or all of the reported benefits. Moms have reported the benefits of placenta encapsulation to include:
Replenishment of depleted iron levels
Increased milk production for breastfeeding
Boosted energy levels / balance hormones
Assist the uterus to return to pre-pregnancy state, and reduce postpartum bleeding.
Help with the “baby blues” and improve overall mood during postpartum
Can decrease hot flashes ( I have had many clients report this benefit!)
What is the process?
After you let me know you have given birth, I will pick up your placenta at your birth location and start the process right away. I utilize single use materials, adhere to strict safety and sanitation guidelines, and prepare in a dedicated workspace. The process takes approximately 24-72 hours. Your capsules will be delivered to you afterwards. With the current health pandemic, ask your hospital and/or birth center that you will be delivering at (prior to your birth) about what their protocols are for handling your placenta after birth. Each hospital has their own specific protocols.
What is the cost?
How many capsules will you get?
The number of capsules yielded from each placenta is different, however it averages to about 80-150. The factors that involve how many capsules are yielded is the size and weight of your placenta.
